Graffiti is Now Open Source
Well, this is a little delayed, but I haven't had time to update this.
Telligent finally has open sourced GraffitiCMS, and has contributed it to the CodePlex directory. This is a very positive step in the right direction, and control is partially back in the hands of the community. There are some very important things to note about this shift:
- "OSS" GraffitiCMS has no licensing restriction.
- "OSS" GraffitiCMS has a dependency on proprietary DLLs provided by Telligent and currently hosted on Telligent servers.
- "OSS" GraffitiCMS has no documentation except what has been on the main www.graffiticms.com website.
- The GraffitiCMS forums are no longer moderated, and have effectively been shut down from spam.
Here's what I'm proposing, as well as working on.
- Keep the Telligent controls closed source, its understandable to protect them. Host them on CodePlex as part of your project as assembled binaries.
- Migrate GraffitiCMS documentation to CodePlex wiki, or give community members Wiki access to do it themselves. Also, try to contribute a little bit more of your dev. documentation so we can work with it more?
- Keep an active watch on the discussion page on the codeplex site, and encourage all members to sign up for the mailing list. This is where the work is being done.
- Finally, contribute however possible. GraffitiCMS was a great product that never quite made it. It is up to the community now to contribute however possible.
Visit the CodePlex site at http://graffiticms.codeplex.com/ for more information on the project.
